Champions for Kids: Inspire Their Dreams!

2011-12

Did You Know?

• 44% of children in the United States live in low-income families.
• 16 million children live in families that are caught in the gap between the official poverty line and a living wage, which means they often don’t qualify for government assistance but still have difficulty meeting basic food, child care, and household needs. The holidays are a particularly challenging time for these families.
• Over 400,000 children were in foster care last year. The holidays can be emotionally difficult for many of these children who are no longer with their biological parents.
• Each day in America, thousands of children in our schools don’t have the resources to learn. These children typically need basic education tools such as pens, paper and notebooks. They also need basic items such as socks, gloves, warm coats and shoes.

Ways YOU Can Help!

GATHER Host a Stocking Stuffer Celebration! Instead of a typical holiday party, host a Disney Stocking Stuffer Celebration. Gather friends and family; ask them to bring appropriate items to place in Holiday stockings for children in need.

LEARN Invite a teacher, social worker, or community advocate to speak to your group about children they serve.

GIVE Give the stockings to the community advocate for children. Send us your Report and Photos at champion@championsforkids.org so that we can celebrate your participation! How many people were Champions for Kids? How many children did you serve? Join our team of Champions for Kids and receive your personalized certificate of victory!
